Wellbeing Service

The Wellbeing Service at Mater Dei College supports students in assessment, short-term counselling and referral regarding personal, social, family, educational and behavioural concerns.

The Wellbeing Service provides crisis intervention and referral to external services for ongoing and regular counselling.

Personal development, mental health and wellbeing are integral to the service. Coordination of delivery of appropriate preventative programs, workshops, training, and courses are developed and delivered in various ways to students throughout the College timetable.

The Wellbeing Service consists of counsellors, social workers and school psychologists committed to providing a positive, caring, inclusive and supportive school environment for all students. They focus on taking a proactive approach to case management and working collaboratively with students, teachers, parents and the school community to benefit all students. Development, implementation and facilitation of appropriate educational programs that support pastoral care are integral to the service and support the implementation of initiatives linked to school health, wellbeing and safety. The service aims to develop resilient and responsible students focusing on an enhanced sense of wellbeing.

The service works closely with the College’s Heads of Year and Learning Support to help students.

To contact the Wellbeing Service, parents are encouraged to discuss any wellbeing concerns with their child’s Head of Year, so they can refer them to the service. Students can also contact their year level counsellor via SEQTA or email counsellor@mdc.wa.edu.au.

Act-Belong-Commit School Partnership

The College has signed up to become a part of the Mentally Healthy Schools program to promote the Act-Belong-Commit ethos throughout our whole school community. The mental health and wellbeing of our community is one of our key pastoral priorities.

Act-Belong-Commit is a mental health promotion campaign that encourages everyone to take action to protect and promote their own mental wellbeing. Being active, having a sense of belonging and having a purpose in life all contribute to happiness and good mental health. At Mater Dei College there are many opportunities for our students to act, belong and commit. We will highlight these events and activities throughout the year.
