Dei to Dei

Dear Parents, Guardians, Students and Staff of Mater Dei College,

It is hard to believe this is the final newsletter for what has been a rewarding year at Mater Dei College.

Last week was a very successful Awards Night. I was impressed with the ability of our talented students and dedicated staff. The Masters of Ceremonies, Head Girl Emma Pryce and Head Boy Aidan Boonnark were outstanding and showed maturity well beyond their years. The Dancers, Musicians and Choir performed beautifully with very appropriate entertainment, led by Director of Music Mr Vince Basile, Mrs Kerry Byrom-Carter and Mrs Wendy Martin. Congratulations to all award winners on their contribution this year.  There are many people involved to ensure the smooth running of an Awards and Presentation Night. Thank you to Mr John Sullivan and Mrs Maree Grayden who were responsible for the planning, coordinating and overseeing the awards presented and to all staff for their support.

At the final assembly on Friday 8 December I thanked students for their spirit of good will in my first semester back at Mater Dei.  I also reminded them to return to the College well groomed, organised and ready to commence study on Thursday 1 February 2018.  All new students and Year 7, 10 & 12 students and Peer Support Leaders commence on Wednesday 31 January.  Please ensure all uniforms are organised prior to the start of the school year to avoid interruptions to important learning time.

Typically at this time of the year we farewell some students and staff not returning to the College next year. I wish all students who are leaving Mater Dei College all the best for their future endeavours. There are staff not returning in 2018, some temporarily and others permanently. Firstly the staff on temporary leave from Mater Dei College in 2018:

  •             Mrs Kendall Chambers
  •             Mr Ben Portwood
  •             Mrs Helena Martins Lamb
  •             Mr Darryl Lobo
  •             Mrs Nola Nicholson
  •             Mrs Janet Green

The staff leaving Mater Dei College permanently are as follows:

  •             Mrs Teresa Cosgrove
  •             Mrs Maree Grayden
  •             Mrs Miranda Whitely
  •             Mrs Rosemarie Lines
  •             Mr Barry Hicks
  •             Mr Joseph Pinto
  •             Mr Brian Morison
  •             Mr Dennis Whyatt

I wish each staff member leaving the College all the very best and thank them for their commitment to our students.

Our College office closes for the school holiday break on Thursday 14 December and re-opens on Monday 22 January.  Thank you to all members of our community who made this year a success.  I wish all families a very happy and holy Christmas and a safe return in the new-year for our 25th anniversary year at Mater Dei College.

God Bless

Annette Morey
