Dei to Dei
Dear Parents, Guardians, Students and Staff of Mater Dei College,
The past few weeks have been very busy for our graduating class of 2017. The events commenced with a full College assembly to farewell the students on Thursday, followed by the Year 12 Graduation with a Mass at St Mary’s Cathedral and a Soiree on Saturday evening. It was a lovely way to join as a community to give thanks for the blessings we have and to pray for the Year 12 students and their families in the weeks, months and years ahead. Thank you to Fr Peter Stiglich from St Norbert College who celebrated Mass with us in the absence of our College Chaplain Fr John Daly. My thanks also to the many staff who worked to make the Mass and the Soiree special for our students.
Next week the Year 12 ATAR students commence their WACE examinations. Please keep our Year 12 students in your prayers throughout this month. In the next few week’s many students will undertake examinations starting with the Year 11 examinations. I ask parents to please supervise your child’s study and homework schedule to ensure students achieve to their full potential.
On Wednesday, we welcomed the incoming Year 7 students and families for 2018. The students enjoyed a day of activities and getting to know the Peer Support Leaders and House Advisors. My thanks to Mrs Angela Lourens, Enrolment Officer, Mr John Sullivan, Deputy Principal and Mrs Lucy Lane, 2018 Year 7 Coordinator and all staff for their work in organising the day for our future students.
Congratulations to Year 10 student Heather Bongiovanni for her efforts in winning the Rotary 4 Way test speaking competition on Monday evening. Please refer to the article from Ms Amanda Dawson.
Thank you to the parents who recently completed the bus survey. In the interest of planning for 2018 and beyond, we appreciate the feedback and look forward to extending this service in the future. More information will follow in the next few weeks.
With the departure of Mrs Marie Grayden to her new promotional position at Newman College in 2018, the College has appointed a new Drama teacher commencing in January. I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Steve Marshall currently Head of Drama and Dance at Prendiville Catholic College. I look forward to welcoming Mr Marshall to the Mater Dei community next year.
