Dei to Dei
Dear Parents, Guardians, Students and Staff of Mater Dei College,
This past fortnight I have had the pleasure of visiting some of our local primary schools to present certificates to our scholarship recipients for Year 7, 2018. I was very impressed with the enthusiasm and warm welcome I received. Congratulations to the following Year 7 2018 students awarded academic scholarships:
- Jaiden Wallis: St Simon Peter Primary School
- Joyce Wang: St Andrews Primary School
- Jacinta Dean: St Luke’s Primary School
- Ian Vincent: St Anthony’s Wanneroo
- Stephanie Chellen: North Woodvale Primary School
- Samuel Turnock: Edgewater Primary School
- Jayden Orrell: Edgewater Primary School
Mater Dei students and staff have experienced success in a range of areas this term. On Tuesday 21 November Mrs Peta Brown and I had the pleasure of attending theWorldSkills WA Medal Presentation Breakfast hosted by the Department of Training and Workforce Development at Crown Burswood. I was very proud of Vivian Ataya, Year 11 who was presented with a Bronze Medal in the Hospitality section. Congratulations to Vivian and Mrs Brown on this outstanding achievement.
Our College has also been acknowledged for the Mater Dei ‘Songlines’ PALS Project which was awarded first place for the Student Engagement and Community Participation 2017 PALS Award. This initiative was coordinated by Mr Toby Hurd and was supported by staff and students of our College. Another outstanding achievement! It was also great to receive very positive feedback from members of the extended community regarding the excellent conduct of our students.
This fortnight we farewell Mrs Cheryl Lennox-Bradley, Aboriginal Community Consultant. Cheryl has been appointed to the role of Transforming Lives Engagement Officer with Catholic Education WA. We wish Cheryl well in her new role.
The College has been working with Westwide Transport to provide an additional bus service for our College community. Thank you to the parents who completed the bus survey this term. I am pleased to advise a new bus service will commence at the start of 2018 on route through Tapping, Carramar and Banksia Grove. The exact route will be forwarded to families before close of business this year.
I wish all families a smooth end to the academic year and I look forward to meeting with parents and students at our College Awards Evening next week, Wednesday 29 November at 7.30pm in the Bernie Boss Hall.
