Mater Dei College is governed by Catholic Education Western Australia Limited (CEWA Ltd), the Catholic Education Commission of WA (CECWA) and the College’s Advisory Council.

Catholic Education Western Australia Limited (CEWA Ltd) commenced operating under its new legal governance structure on 1 January 2020. Consequently, all Diocesan schools, including Mater Dei College, are now part of CEWA Ltd.

Catholic Education Commission of Western Australia Limited

Set up by the Archbishop of Perth and the Major Superiors of Teaching Orders, the Catholic Education Commission of WA (CECWA) is responsible for governing the overall coordination and development of Catholic education in WA.

The CECWA, therefore, has an overall guiding role that the Board of Management and Principal acknowledge in their exercise of responsibility within the College. All non-government schools are required to be efficient as defined in the Education Act of WA.

College Advisory Council

The general object of which the Council is to help Mater Dei College fulfil its educational responsibilities under this Constitution in accordance with the policies and practices prescribed or recommended by the CECWA and in accordance with Diocesan guidelines and prescriptions for the religious education program.

The Advisory Council is comprised of the Principal and various Council members who provide sound financial advice to the senior management of the College. The Council is accountable to the CECWA and to all who form part of the Mater Dei College community. This extra tier of advice supports the efficient operations of the college that all non-government schools must be efficient, as defined in the Education Act (WA).

The general object of which the Council is to help Mater Dei College fulfil its educational responsibilities under this Constitution in accordance with the policies and practices prescribed or recommended by the CECWA and in accordance with Diocesan guidelines and prescriptions for the religious education program.

Annually parents and community members can nominate themselves or others for election to the College Advisory Council.

The College Advisory Council carries out the following functions in pursuit of its objectives:

  • Planning for the present and future operation of the College
  • Providing membership on selection panels for the employment of staff to the school in accordance with CECWA policy
  • Providing membership on the panel which recommends the appointment of a Principal in accordance with CECWA policy
  • Disseminating information about College and Catholic Education to persons and organisations in the College community
  • Liaising in all matters relating to the financial management of the College with persons and organisations in the local Catholic community
  • Managing all the finances associated with the College
  • Advising the Principal concerning College Policy.
