Heavenly Father, your son, Jesus, is your greatest gift to us, a great sign of your love. Guide us as we strive to walk in that love together as a family this Advent. As we prepare our hearts for Christmas, bring us closer to each other and to your son. Give us the grace and strength we need every day. Help us to always trust in you. Come, Lord Jesus, lead all people closer to you. Come and dispel the darkness of our world with the light of your love. Amen.

We wish to advise that the Catholic Development Fund will be closed from Thursday 21 December 2017 to Tuesday 2 January 2018 for the Christmas period. During this time, any scheduled direct debits that families have in place for the payment of their school fees will not be debited from their bank accounts until 2 January 2018. If you have a continued direct debit occurring during this period and feel you will be impacted by the closure, please email email@example.com with your amended payment instructions.
The College BPAY code will change in 2018 (this will not impact your individual family reference number). The College is currently still in the process of transitioning to the new code, and families will be advised of the new BPAY code as soon as this processed has been finalised. You can continue to pay your school fee account in 2017 using the current BPAY code details noted on your fee statement.

Inspire - Student Magazine
The inaugural edition of INSPIRE has arrived! This magazine is created by students, for students. Hopefully the wider Mater Dei Community will find it of interest too. The purpose of this magazine is to provide a forum for creative writing, to showcase the talents of MDC students and to ‘inspire’ other students to try their hand at writing.
Inspire can be accessed online via the Inspire Student Magazine portal on SEQTA. Currently we have four volunteer editors whose job it is to review and select a range of writing types from all year groups. Next year, we aim to publish in terms 1, 2 & 3, which will give you the Christmas holidays to get creative. All types of writing are welcome, from poetry to short stories or, if you just want to have a rant about something, write a speech or feature article.
If you would like to submit a piece, please email your submission to one of the editors: Chantelle Lucas, Chantelle Firth, Elise Rushton or Zara Johnson via their Mater Dei email address.
Thanks to all our contributors and to Mrs Boyle and Ms Laing for their support. Enjoy!
Disability Awareness Week
Mater Dei College, for the first time this year, has recognised Disability Awareness Week. In 2017, this inaugural week has been run from 4-8 December, coinciding with the United Nations sanctioned International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) held each year on 3 December. This is a week to break down disability barriers and celebrate abilities.
Students have had the opportunity to participate in wheelchair basketball, quizzes and Kahoots in homeroom, creating a lasting piece of artwork, a vision impairment maze and view documentaries.
We were honoured to have Amber Merritt, a London para-Olympian silver medallist, run wheelchair basketball sessions with staff and students. Amber shared and inspired us all with her story, experiences, talents and skills. Getting involved in celebrations this week has been a chance to challenge myths, improve awareness and take positive action to change inclusion for people with disability.
Ms Iona Scott.
PALS initiatives at Mater Dei College
In the month of November a small group of students involved in the PALS initiatives at Mater Dei College were lucky enough to attend the PALS awards ceremony at the state library. They were there to receive the Student Engagement and Community Participation award from the Hon Ben Wyatt MLA, Treasurer, Minister of Finance, Energy and Aboriginal Affairs. Ruby Russell and Riley Burke were asked to MC the event, they performed their roles beautifully and were a credit to their families and our College community. After receiving the award Mark Richardson Pitt gave a passionate and composed speech towards the end of the event which was well received.
Mr Toby Hurd
Congratulations to Eden Ridal (Yr 10) and her team won the bronze medal at the Australian National Ice Skating Championships last weekend
Emily and Natalie Bennett
