Dei to Dei

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

This week concluded with our inter-house Athletics carnival which at the time of writing was yet to get underway. We will be hoping for a day relatively clear of showers and some good performances from our athletes. Thank you to our PE Department headed by Mr Mark Golding and all the staff and volunteers who work to ensure the success of an event such as this. This week we also celebrated our Siena House Feast Day – similar celebrations occur for all our Houses as the year unfolds. Thank you to Mr Frajtak and his many helpers for ensuring a successful acknowledgement of their house patron.

With Ms Lucy Lane returning from leave this week, please be advised that Ms Lane is taking over as Acting Head of the Humanities and Social Sciences faculty for the remainder of the year, following the retirement of Mr Reimers at the end of last term. Ms Miranda Whitley has assumed a part-time position in the HASS department – also for the remainder of the year – we warmly welcome Ms Whitley to Mater Dei College.

Next week will see NAPLAN testing for our Year 7 and 9 students and I urge all students to do their best in these assessments. For our Year 9 students the testing has a little extra significance in that it can remove the need for them to sit OLNA testing from Year 10 onwards, should their Year 9 NAPLAN results be sufficiently high.

Regards and God Bless,

John Aldous

Acting Principal
