Study Skills Handbook

The Study Skills Handbook has 43 units that can help students discover techniques to assist them to learn more efficiently and effectively. This will help students improve their academic results and achieve their personal best at school and beyond.

At this time of year the units covering Exam study techniques would be of great benefit to our students.

Smartrider Card

You would have read in a previous issue that the Uniform Shop has been outsourced to Tara Uniforms.  As a result, Smartrider Cards can no longer be used for uniform purchases.

A small amount of students are requesting withdrawal of cash from their Smartrider Card at the Cafeteria. It is our preference that parents make alternative arrangements for Uniform Shop purchases as we are not able to guarantee that the cash is used for the intended purpose.

The online ordering system is very convenient for purchases and will enable parents to avoid sending cash or the need to attend the College in person.

We will no longer be able to facilitate such requests from the end of Term 2 and your cooperation will be greatly appreciated.

Year 7 and 8 Social

The Year 7&8 Social has been rescheduled for June 9th 6.30pm – 8.30pm in the Bernie Boss Hall.

Tickets can be purchased via the College website.

Cost for entry is $10 and will include pizza and a drink. The theme will be Good v’s Evil. We hope to see lots of Year 7 & 8 students at this event.

Junior Boys Football

Last week, the Junior Boys Football team played Butler College in Round 1 of the Eagles Schoolboys Cup. Mater Dei came away with the win beating Butler College 9.3.57 to 2.3.15.

Players of the match were:

  1. Isaac Demarte
  2. Jack Demarte
  3. Saverio Marafioti

Junior Girls Soccer

The Junior Girls team played their first soccer match of the Champion Schools Football Cup against Ashdale at home.  The Ashdale girls were an unknown quantity as was our team, playing their first game together for the season.  The girls were fairly evenly matched in the first half of the first term as both teams settled into the game.  A blinding goal by Taneesha Baker gave the MDC girls a necessary boost and they started to look like a TEAM!

Soon after Ashdale scored an equaliser and tension began to build once more! Kuchkoon Akech scored a second goal to finish off the first half 2-1, to Mater Dei. At half time our keeper, Andrea Moyo, begged to be let out on to the field and we were very thankful to Emily Bicknell for stepping up to the keeper position; you were amazing Emily!

Kuchkoon Akech, Ashney Leitao and Natalie Bennet were tireless in defence and kept Ashdale at bay for the whole of the second half. Taneesha Baker and Michaela Chirikure scored a goal apiece to finish off with a resounding 4-1 win to Mater Dei!

Congratulations to all girls on a great team effort and an awesome display of sportsmanship!  A big thank you to Jamie West, Year 11, who was our designated Football West Referee; Jamie controlled the game in a very professional and efficient manner. Lastly, a big thank you to our parents for coming along to support their girls!
