Dei to Dei
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
This week we celebrated our Opening Mass in the Bernie Boss Hall – an excellent opportunity to acknowledge our existence as a faith community and to ask for God’s blessings on our 2017 academic year. Thank you to all involved in the preparation for this celebration and to those who played an active role in the Mass. Special thanks to Mrs Wendy O’Neill (Retreats and Liturgy Co-ordinator) for overseeing the organisation of this important occasion in the College calendar. Our students are to be commended for the particularly respectful manner in which they participated in this celebration. It was also great to have Fr John Daly (College Chaplain) back from leave and for our new students to experience Fr John’s warm and affirming nature – we are indeed blessed to have him among us on one day per week, particularly given his other duties as parish priest at St Anthony’s in Wanneroo.
At the conclusion of our Opening Mass we presented staff service awards to two teaching staff - Dr Wayne Keady and Mr Peter Roberts. Both gentlemen have devoted twenty years to teaching at Mater Dei College and during their time at our College have moved into middle management positions – Mr Roberts as Head of Maths and Dr Keady as Head of Science. I am sure it was not lost on our students that twenty years is much more than their whole lifetime to date and it represents a significant commitment to generations of students who have passed through Mater Dei in that time. Congratulations to both Dr Keady and Mr Roberts for reaching this milestone.
Our House Swimming Carnival is occurring to day and in next week’s newsletter we look forward to reading the results and thanking those involved.
A reminder that this coming Monday 20 February is a pupil free day due to staff professional development on a Protective Behaviours curriculum. I commented on the timing of pupil free days in last week’s newsletter.
Regards and God Bless,
