Mater Dei College Notices

FAITH AND LITURGY

Last week at the College we celebrated a beautiful Ash Wednesday Liturgy in the Bernie Boss Hall ably led by our Year 12 Student Executive. This signified the beginning of Lent in the Church’s Liturgical calendar. Ash Wednesday is also the beginning of Project Compassion in our College. Each Homeroom has a Project Compassion box in their tray and the students are encouraged to donate what they can to help others in need. Each week we will hold a ‘bring in a dollar’ day. Next week it will be Tuesday 14 March. The students are notified through the daily notices in homeroom. Some of the money raised will support the work of Caritas Australia and some money will support our mission in Kenya. I have included a link below to the Caritas Australia outlining the launch of the 2017 Project Compassion ‘Love your Neighbour’.

I would like to invite each of you to attend our College Foundation Day Community Mass which will be held on Friday 24 March in the Bernie Boss Hall starting at 8:45am. This celebration provides us with an opportunity to grow in our journey of faith and provides active witness to the sacramental life of our College. You do not have to be Catholic to attend. All are welcome.

Mater Dei finished the group stages of the Graeme Wood Shield with another emphatic win, this time over Belridge Secondary College 2nd XI.

Belridge SC won the toss and sent Mater Dei in to bat. The game was all but won after the first 11 overs which saw openers Michael Hammond (77) and Tristan Hobley (77*) take the score past 120 for the loss of no wickets.

Daniel Holland (35*) came to the crease after the loss of the first wicket to play a pivotal role in getting the score past 200. Mater Dei completed their 20 overs with a score of 1/201.

Belridge never looked like chasing the total down after Joshua Collins’ opening spell of 1/13 off 3 overs, provided an early wicket for the MDC team. Elliot Morris swept through the middle order with a devastating spell of 2/8 off 3 overs, taking 2 wickets in consecutive deliveries. Thomas Snelson cleaned up the tail in the last over claiming 2/0 off his one over. Belridge completed their 20 overs well short of the target at 8/99.

The Mater Dei College Cricket team finished in 1st place after the group stages and will play Greenwood College next week.
