Partnership Acceptance Learning Sharing Award

Congratulations to all the staff and students involved in the Whadjuk Gift Project.

The project, initiated by Mr Toby Hurd, has been awarded the Student Engagement and Community Participation 2018 PALS Award by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries.
On 28 March, 340 Year 5 students from schools that included; St Luke’s CPS , Whitford Catholic PS, Francis Jordan CPS, John Paul II CPS and St Anthony’s School attended the Whadjuk Gift day at Mater Dei College. The students wore T-shirts that they had designed to represent 14 different Noongar nations including, Torres Strait, Yamadji and Yirriganydji nations. The day started with a traditional Welcome to Country and a Smoking Ceremony, along with a short, impromptu lesson on the didgeridoo. Students then moved through the College grounds, escorted by Mater Dei College student leaders, to view the 3m tall mural of Eddie Mabo, then onto sporting activities.
