Food and Nutrition

The Year 9 Food and Nutrition course gives the students an insight into understanding nutrients and the role they play in creating a healthy body. The recipes prepared during this course include a variety of foods to enhance and build on food preparation skills and understanding to why we need to make healthy food choices to create a healthy life.

This subject will incur a cookbook levy.

Textiles

Students will develop their sewing skills to become confident machine users. They will learn embellishment skills including hand embroidery and appliqué. They will research, design and create a variety of textiles products using their own creative designs and styles. They will investigate the properties and uses of fibres and fabrics and the impact of clothing production on the environment.

Childcare

This course focuses on the development of a child from conception, pregnancy to three months of age. Students will observe newborn babies in order to understand the complete dependence of a newborn and the commitment required to become an effective parent. Students will recognise that parenting is a complex responsibility demanding the ability to provide for a child's physical, emotional, social and intellectual needs.  Students will also crate baby items suitable for the nursery.
